Tulum is known as a quaint, bohemian paradise in the Riviera Maya. In recent years it has grown into a coveted travel destination. It now caters for everyone from backpackers to some of the world’s most rich and famous. Fortunately, despite growing concerns of Mexico’s drug related violence, Tulum and the Riviera Maya as a whole have stayed safe for tourists. However, this doesn’t mean that the municipality isn’t constantly working on ways to improve safety for residents and visitors. Tulum real estate will now benefit from an increased police presence as a new police unit is placed in the town.
The new unit is to be place in central Tulum town and will run 24 hour a day, 7 days a week. It will be the second such unit in Tulum puebla. The first was implemented in Maya Pax. The increased police presence has been orchestrated at the request of Romalda Dzul Caamal, the municipal president.
Decrease in Crime
Gabriel Gonzalez Ornelas is the General Director of Public Safety in Tulum. He has commented on the subject:
“There is a commitment to addressing the most unsafe points.”
Surveillance patrols in the area also expect to improve with the additional mobile police unit. Ornelas also confirmed that the unit in Maya Paz has resulted in a clear decline in crime in the area.
Tulum Real Estate
The majority of Tulum real estate that is intended for foreign investors is not located in the puebla. The most popular areas include the upscale community of Aldea Zama, for example. However, that doesn’t mean that the general safety of Tulum as a whole is of no consequence. Many tourists do choose to venture away from the beach road and into the town. Tulum puebla offers a dose of culture including popular Mexican food spots such as Burrito Amor and street art cycling tours. For this reason, the continued improvement of safety in Tulum can only benefit Tulum real estate and vacation rental owners.
