For both fresh and weathered travellers, the Caribbean represents the ultimate destination in style and relaxation.
From the thumping beat of Barbados to rum-soaked Antigua, a taste of the Caribbean has travellers coming back again and again. And while Mexico is an established destination in it’s own right, many travellers outside of the Americas are unaware of Mexico’s connection to the Caribbean. Europeans represent a growing sector of visitors to the Riviera Maya and finally they are recognising the silky, white sand of the Riviera Maya as the stellar Caribbean destination that it is.
The UK newspaper The Telegraph and British Airways have compiled a list of the ‘5 Most Stylish Hotels in the Caribbean’ to celebrate their now 12 direct weekly flights to the Caribbean. And along with the aforementioned favourites Antigua and Barbados, the Riviera Maya made two spots of the list.
World-Class Riviera Maya Resorts
Royal Hideaway Playacar

Breaking boundaries, The Royal Hideaway Playacar was the first all-inclusive resort that was included as one of the Leading Hotels of the World. “Lush gardens, Caribbean sands and an expansive spa may give this adults-only hotel its hideaway name, but the pretty, bustling town of Playa del Carmen is just a short walk away.”
Grand Velas, Riviera Maya

Next on the list is Grand Velas found on , “A sweeping stretch of Caribbean coastline edged with glorious beaches and coral reefs, Mexico’s Mayan Riviera is its glittering jewel. At Grand Velas every suite has a view of the beach or the jungle, a butler service ensures your every whim is catered for and an enormous spa is hidden within its jungle landscape.”
UK Tourism in Riviera Maya
UK nationals represent the third largest market for tourism within Mexico, and as the current #1 destination in Mexico, the Riviera Maya welcomes more Brits than anywhere else. UK travel providers are increasing services due to the growing popularity of the Mexican Caribbean. British Airways is the UK’s largest airline provider and has now upped direct flights to Cancun to a total of three times a week. With other major airlines such as Thomas Cook and Thompson following suit, it seems that the Brits have fully discovered the style and charm of the Mexican Caribbean.
